Hi there!
My name is Nikki van Toorn, a 25 year old freelance photographer from the Netherlands. Since I was young I had a passion for sneakers. Online I browsed to find the latest sneakers while browsing I stumbled upon the coolest sneaker-photo’s. I got inspired by those photo’s and said to myself: “I want to do this!”.
I had no clue about photography, but my grandmother did! She’s been photographing her whole life and she’s the one who taught me how to use a camera. It’s because of her that I know the basics and techniques of photography. Once I knew how to use a camera I started to take photo’s off my sneakers. I shared those pictures on Instagram and quickly got in touch with fellow sneakerheads. This made sure I was able to capture more and more. Time went by, made a lot of new friends, learned a lot and developed my own style in photography.
Sneakers go hand in hand with Hiphop culture. So besides sneakers I also started to capture streetwear looks, portraits and events. This made sure my portfolio grew even more. At some point I started to receive requests. And before I knew it I was able to quit my job and become a freelance photographer.
During this process I always made sure I kept on learning, after each shoot I asked myself what I liked and what I want to improve. I’m still doing this to keep myself sharp and focused.
